  • JAPANESE ACUPUNCTURE
  • Japanese acupuncture encompasses many, indeed hundreds of styles and approaches to acupuncture that are (compared to other major dominant acupuncture styles such as TCM acupuncture, French-Vietnamese acupuncture, and Korean acupuncture) particularly gentle and often more easily accepted by Western patients due to the use of thinner and fewer needles, and more shallowly inserted (or even non-insertive) techniques. As mentioned above, there are literally hundreds of acupuncture approaches in Japan's competitve marketplace. A fairly predominant and classical movement known as meridian therapy emerged in the 1920's (along with modern Western allopathic medicine and the American Medical Association) as a movement to get "back to the classics," refering to its theoretical and clinical reliance and interest in the earliest, and most classical Chinese acupuncture texts. Meridian therapy uses the 5 element philosophical framework -- Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal -- to diagnose and treat all conditions. Typically, very few needles (from 2 to 5) are needed to rectify the "root" imbalance, and these may be very thin, and superficially inserted, if inserted at all. Because of its precision, attention to detail, and extremely gentle (if not painless) nature, Japanese acupuncture, as a rising presence in the United States "acupuncture scene", offers an attractive alternative to many needle sensitive patients.

  • ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE
  • The application of a very low-amperage, low-intensity electrical stimulation to needles. Often used to relieve pain, other frequencies are used to stimulate tissue growth, and to moderate physiological function. Electro-acupuncture is not painful, but rather feels like a mild tingling at the site. Often used for severely painful conditions, to repair bone and soft tissue following trauma or surgery, and following stroke, electroacupuncture offers long lasting relief.

  • SHONISHIN (Japanese pediatric acupuncture)
  • SHONISHIN, or Japanese pediatric acupuncture is a distinct style of meridian therapy developed especially for children. Very gentle and non-invasive, most techniques are completely non-insertive. A child's QI (KI in Japanese) resides very superficially, and can therefore be accessed at or even slightly above the skin's surface for therapeutic purposes to rebalance and rebuild. Other techniques commonly used to enhance proper QI flow are contact needling, dermal friction (rubbing/ scraping meridians), moxibustion (acupoint heat stimulation) and application of small gold and silver balls which are left in place for a few days to further enhance treatment. Chinese herbal medicine and dietary recommendations are often appropriate as well. Ottitis media (ear infection), asthma, exzema, colic, and ADD/ ADHD are just a few conditions that are helped by SHINISHIN and TCM. SHONISHIN is holistic, painless and effective therapy for many common and difficult to treat children's conditions.

  • AURICULOTHERAPY (ear acupuncture)
  • While the ancient Chinese knew of the energetic significanc of the ear and mapped out a coarse "map" to treat a few conditions, AURICULOTHERAPY was really fully developed and realized in France during the late 1950's and early 1960's. Dr. Paul Nogier, a neurologist, developed an entire medical system of diagnosis and treatment involving only the ear. Subsequently, the People's republic of China invited Dr. Nogier to enlighten them about these discoveries, and years of Chinese research has added to the science of auriculotherapy. Auriculotherapy, the insertion of thin acupuncture needles into specific points in the ear, can potentially treat most conditions. Auriculotherapy is perhaps most widely known, and most extensively used in the field of addiction recovery. STOP SMOKING protocols are famous for their strong positive influence using 5 points in each ear. An added benefit is that as patients may remain fully clothed, this style of treatment is well suited to public healthcare situations. Call about very effective SMOKING CESSATION SERIES = 5 treatments over 2 1/2 to 3 weeks proves quite effective at alleviating the intense cravings and withdrawals symptoms and anxiety that quitting smoking brings. 5 for $200.00 !
